Guejuana Deblac, a freshmen at James Bowie High School, is this April's Student of the Month. Student of the Month is an award given to a role model student every month. She was given this award on Monday April 3, 2017. While getting the award Guejuana was overwhelmed with joy and gratefulness. Ms. Deblac believes she got this award for all her hard work and her good personality.
Today we interviewed Guejuana and asked her the different standards you have to have and why she was was the one to receive student of the month. "To get student of the month you must have good grades, conduct, stand up for others, and have a good heart" Guejuana explained. She also believes she earned this award because of her personality and her volunteer work. Guejuana is an involved person inside and outside of school. She loves to read, talk, and get involved with volunteer work. The most recent volunteering Guejuana has been involved in is the Austin Food Drive, "this was the main factor on why I won student of the month". Along with all her outside of school activities, like any other student Guejuana works extremely hard to keep her grades high. "I take pre-ap algebra, physics, biology2, animation, and art" these are only some of the classes that she takes and has good grades in.
Ms. Deblac is a well liked and a behaved student at Bowie, she is a great role model for other students and respects her parents and teachers. "I think I'm considered a good role model for both my school and family because I'm optimistic and like to make friends" Guejuana tells us. Because this award is not easy to get you must have supporters and something to work towards. Therefore we asked Guejuana what she was working towards, "I chose to work towards this accomplishment just to help the school be a better place and it looks good for college". We also questioned who her own role models and supporters are, "my mom because she is always smiling tells me to work hard and I look up to her, and my grandma because she is awesome".
Receiving the Student of the Month award is a big deal, so we decided to ask how Guejuana's school life has changed, "people I don't usually talk to come up to me and congratulate me, and I feel that there is now an even higher reputation to uphold now that I have won this award". "This award has changed me by making me work harder and to again keep my high reputation and I feel I have a role to play in the schools reputation too" she explains with some anxiety. But Guejana knows that she earned this award and it will help her in the future. "I plan to be a worship leader and an artist after college", Guejuana hopes that this award will help her get these careers. Guejuana has earned this award for being a hard working student and she knows that but she explains her feelings as she received the award itself, "I had lots and lots of surprise".
You receive student of the month at lunch, get an email, and an announcement over the loud speakers for the whole school to hear.
